The importance of following your dentist’s instructions for wearing your Invisalign Aligner Trays
Invisalign is an incredibly popular treatment used worldwide to align teeth so that you can have the beautiful smile you want. If you wish to undergo Invisalign treatment, following directions exactly as prescribed is essential. Failing to do so could result in less than desirable results.
Don’t take a break-even for a week
While it tends to be younger patients who either forget to or intentionally fail to wear their invisible aligner trays, doing so for even a week can lead to complications with the treatment system. While a week may seem like just a small break from wearing your aligner trays, if you think it will not hurt the overall trajectory of the treatment, this is not the case. Failing to wear your aligner trays consistently and as prescribed, even for a week, can seriously hinder your progress or lead to a regression. It has been found that patients who forget to wear their trays for a week eventually will do so for extended periods. The negative impact of failing to wear the aligner tray will be different from person to person, but there will be some form of negative impact. This makes it very important that you wear your aligner trays for the amount of time prescribed by your doctor. After all, this is your money going into the treatment, so why waste it?
Putting your tray back on after a break
Here are some pointers:
- If you have gone a week or longer without wearing your aligner trays, when you go to put it back on, you may find some difficulty in doing so. Invisalign aligner trays are crafted for a perfect fit, so you should never force them into your mouth; doing so could lead to injuries to your teeth, gums, or soft tissue.
- If you are facing difficulty putting on your tray, use a mirror. Try putting on the part of the tray where you feel the least resistance and then wiggle it into place. If this method works, you should find that your teeth slide in easily with no discomfort. Otherwise, you will want to visit your dentist to evaluate your next steps.
